What a notice needs
- Your signature, as the owner of the right or a person authorized to act for the owner.
- The copyrighted work you say was infringed.
- Where the material is on ucracy, in enough detail for us to find it.
- How to reach you: a postal address, a telephone number if you have one, and an email address.
- A statement that you believe, in good faith, that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement that the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act for the owner.
When a notice has everything above, we remove the material or disable access to it and tell the member who posted it. They may answer with a counter-notice. If they do, we pass it to you, and we put the material back 10 to 14 business days later unless you tell us you have filed a court action.
Knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake, can make the person who says so liable for damages (17 U.S.C. 512(f)).
Repeated removals
Under our repeat-infringer policy (17 U.S.C. 512(i)), an account whose files were removed after 3 notices loses access. A removal that is reversed after a counter-notice does not count.
